Original battery?

= sorry, I should've warned you about the Malaysia road. I took it to, on my search for the elusive battery. My battery plus alluded to me that the new battery was a maintenance free battery which I wasn't looking for. Is this not the case?

Batteries Plus and asked if they could get it.
Well, they werent sure but they did confirm that they are a valid vendor for Yuasa batteries and made a call to Yuasa in PA to confirm availability and retail price $110.
Great!
But (there is always a
but), new shipping regulations for batteries added $18 to the normal $10 handling fee.
With sales tax that put
the price at $145.
I guess the guy at
Batteries Plus felt sorry for me so he gave me the online order discount, 10%.
So the final price was $135
(w/Core) and would arrive in 4 days.
A
few days later I called to see if the battery was on the way and I got another 'But'.
Seems Yuasa US did not have any
in stock and there would be a 2 week delay.
I said OK I can wait.
Two weeks
later the battery came exactly as described.
So here is the bottom line: The battery is a fresh exact match of the original, total cost $135, with acid/activation, AND the US supply chain has been primed.
The UK batteries are NOS
shipped dry and also match for a price of $114 plus they need to be acid filled at a cost of about $10 for a total of $124.
The Batteries Plus part number is
CYLNS60-D
.

It is a standard battery Yuasa number 46B24R for a Japanese Tractor.
Battery is marked NS60 on top, see pictures.  Looks just like yours except it is made in Taiwan.  Yuasa does make a Group 51 maintenance free battery, but it looks like all the other maintenance free batteries. Note, I had a new 1972 AZ600 back in the day I drove in MD and never replaced the battery in the 6 years I owned it.

I'm curious to see how long this battery will last out here in the desert heat. I am using a battery tender, so it should last a few years longer. Most batteries crap out after two years.

The specific gravity for "tropical" or "southern" lead-acid batteries used to be specified at less then the "normal" 1.265 to extend the life. I don't recall that information and can't seem to locate it. It's buried in someplace in Google. Less acid, more water.

well Chuck I like to know part no. on that maintenance free battery  as  that's what I am looking for  don't care  if it looks OEM  but has to be a bolt style as I am not changing my battery  cables  as the n600 don't use a  post style  its a bolt style  and that's what I am looking for thanks

Maintenance free battery should be pretty easy to find it either interstate battery, or batteries plus. I was looking for a period  Correct battery with the caps in order to make my car look like 1972.

By the way, Here in the desert when the temperatures soar above 105 in June and stays there until the end of September, batteries get eaten up by the heat. Even some of the best batteries only last two or three years.

Battery is marked NS60 on top, see pictures.  Looks just like yours except it is made in Taiwan.  Yuasa does make a Group 51 maintenance free battery, but it looks like all the other maintenance free batteries. Note, I had a new 1972 AZ600 back in the day I drove in MD and never replaced the battery in the 6 years I owned it.

= sorry, I should've warned you about the Malaysia road. I took it to, on my search for the elusive battery. My battery plus alluded to me that the new battery was a maintenance free battery which I wasn't looking for. Is this not the case?

I thought I had pencil post terminals on my Z, but they are not. They are not SAE either... I am not sure what they are. So I wrapped the Yuasa's posts with some 1/32" lead sheet and tightened the clamps. Seems to be working well.

All,
Important points no mater what battery you put in: Always install with battery so the posts are closest to the fender. This eliminate the risk of battery post/ hood contact. So if you go with something other than a NS60 battery you will need a group 51 arrangement NOT the group 51R which is most easily found. Group 51 fits the early Civics, etc. and the more recent S2000 sports car. Group 51 batteries use SAE posts and are available Maint. Free from most manufacturers.  Hope that helps.
