It could be the coil - again, assuming that you're indeed getting a weak spark. If it were me, I'd swap to another set of points, just to be sure, especially if you have another set hanging around. (On the surface, doing so probably seems unnecessary, but points can go strangely wonky every now and then. Points are a quite a bit cheaper than a coil.)

I agree but to avoid waitign for a new set of points, and for diagnostic purposes, you may want to try to gently file the existing points, whcih may have developed some crud on the surface of the contact areas. If this improves the performance, you know that the fault resides in the points.

Hi Fred;
There are some really good pointers, and many times it is what we have already done that stops me from trying it again.  If it is electrical then there are several areas that come into the equation.   The plug wires and ends of the spark plug wires are screwed into the ends of the wires and some times become loose.  Inside the end of the spark plug connector is a small wire that holds the top of the spark plug tight against the wall of the lead inside of the end connector.  Check to make sure this small wire is doing its job.  If all of that looks good, pull the breaker plate and see if there is side to side play (we know it’s supposed to rotate).  But if there is side play then you will loose the point gap.   No gap, no spark or larger gap weak spark.  There is a fix on the anz600owners yahoo group site in word that will help this situation.   Also, check all grounds, make sure they are making good contact on the engine and the frame of the car and to the negative side of the battery.
It ran up until it didn’t so it will run again.

One question (that has probably already been discussed), in lieu of the points system, is there an electronic ignition conversion kit available for the Z600? Say a Pertronix system with a Flamethrower coil? If so, has anyone done this?

There is only one test, the two plug leads connect with anywhere from 30 to 60's resistance, by sticking the two leads into the wire.  The next test is to do the same with the Blue and black wire coming off it.  These too should also have some resistance.
Then check the leads to its metal bracket, if they don't short out it's ok.

Did u replace the coil?  Or what did u do to it to fix it?
My coupe has been having some slight issues when it heats up after driving for an hour or so.  Need to check all the same stuff you just went through next time I have a chance
