brakes

I got my coupe running GREAT, licenced & insured.
I have been working on the brakes, replaced ALL the rubber parts
( the cylinders were in great shape) I don't have any leaks.
They just won't 'pump up'
Ive tried with motor running & stoped.
Just have my emergencey break.
Maybe the check valve on the master cyl.??
I have had them off and cleaned them, looked O.K.

I would start by checking basics, first, are the rear brakes adjusted properly? Second, when bleeding the brakes, are you getting fluid out of the bleeders in a squirt? Are you getting any brakes at all,front or rear? If no to those questions, it could be a faulty master cylinder seal. Even if you are getting fluid out of the bleeders it could be a master cylinder check valve. There is also possibilities that brake hoses could be collapsed and not flowing.
I hope this gives you some direction as you didn't give too much info on problem. Brad From:

I put new rubber o.e.m. style brake hoses in front.
Nothing is leaking ANYWHERE.
I am thinking it's probabl;y is the master cyl. check valves.
When i bleed, the rear has more of a gush than the front.
Driving it down the street, i pump the brakes and i can feel it stoping but it fades & the pedal goes to the floor.

Yes,if your pedal has pressure but drifts to the floor,than that is usually the check valve in the master cylinder. Only the coupe has the second master cylinder,so there could always be an issue with that too. But I would start with the primary master cylinder first. Also I have cleaned out the master cylinders before as it usually is some trash under the check valve and they worked great afterwards,but must say that I can't actually recommend that for safety and liability reasons. I just replaced BOTH check valves with new and maybe a little better now.
No leaks anywhere. All new rubber parts, cylinders were all in great shape, very minor pitting if at all.
What do you mean the coupe had 2nd master cylinder??
What about the booster??

Hi Steve;
Brad is right, check the master cylinder. Bleed it on the bench, using bolts (with the correct threads) to seal off the ports see if you are building pressure or not. Ensure you use denatured alcohol to clean parts even bolts and your hands while opening things up or during testing. Don't use carb or brake clean when cleaning any parts only denatured alcohol. If the master cylinder seems to be working, Check the rest of the brake system. When bleeding the system, check to make sure the rest of the hoses, lines are in good order. Swelling is common if the brake fluid is contaminated by using anything but clean brake fluid and using a long wire to remove obstructions can be more harmful if it damages the inner lining of the brake hose. I use a mighty vac to pull fluid at each bleed valve and then rebleed the whole system using the peddle.
Also, remember to follow bleeding sequence as described in the shop manual, back of master (front brakes), front of master (rear brakes), then Left front, right front and rear.

Will do that.
NO leaks in system.
replaced check valves
O.E.M. front brake lines.
ALL new rubber seals.
Was sitting without front brake lines( someone took them off)
But fluid does come thru ALL bleeder valves.

The motor should be off when bleeding brakes. You may try removing the hold down nuts from the fluid reservoir and raise it higher in case there is a bend in the lines there preventing fluid from moving to the master cylinder, and make sure all bleeders are closed. good luck.

what would happen if the rear brake ck valve was in backwards in the master cyl? anybody know

Just need to understand the question, because the check valve sits in the spring. It can go in upside down I guess but then the spring would be upside down otherwise the cap couldn't be threaded in place. If you mean the rear check valve is where the front check valve is then there may be some fluid flow issues but other than that not much.
