Driving my 72 Coupe

Post by Lyle »

Have been driving my coupe for a couple months now.
Everything is looking/working great. Everything is as close to stock as I can get it, except for my electronic ignition I made.
It is different than any car I have owned!
The gear shifter is strange the way it comes out of the dash and rotates, but shifts OK. The car starts right up with a little choke and idles at about 1,200 rpm and revs smoothly to 6,500. I have been running non-alcohol 89 oct fuel. Acceleration is OK off the line and to about 30mph. After 30 it's really slow, but had it to about 80mph on a flat road. It you keep the revs up and shift at about 6,000 it will keep up with most traffic. The power assisted brakes with silicone brake fluid work good. It tracks straight and handles good for a car with skinny 10" tires. Because it is so narrow you have more room to use all of the lane, kind of like a motorcycle. I actually like driving it, I would say it's fun to drive because you really have to work hard to keep up with traffic, nobody knows your actually trying real hard. Checked gas mileage around town and average 36 to 38mpg, beating on it!!
Still have a few things I need to make it perfect.....
I want to thank everyone who posted info and sold me parts.
Another Honda 600 1972 coupe is back on the road.
Thanks again
