SOS ! Starter wont turn off!

Post by spannchad »

When I went to start my sedan yesterday the starter was stuck and I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. I went out today and tried to connect it and it immediately tried to start it again. It did this two weeks ago so I rebuilt the starter. Is it electrical? has anyone had experience with this or have any suggestions? What could cause this?Thanx for your help.

First thing I would do is disconnect the small wire on the starter from the ignition switch. Reconnect battery and see what it does. If it starts cranking again, the problem is in the starter. If it doesn't do anything, check to see if you have power on the small wire. If you have power on it then the problem is upstream. I would then disconnect the wire from the ignition switch that goes to your starter at the ignition switch,Check you service manual for which wire as I don't have my manual in front of me. If the power goes away, then its ignition switch. If the starter wire still has power then you have a short to that wire that will have to be traced out. I would actuall suspect faulty ignition switch shorted internally.  Hope this helps out.   Brad  (Classic Auto Service Dallas) From:
