back glass?

Post by spannchad »

Does anyone know where I can get a back glass for a coupe?I also could use a back left bumper, seat belts, and light console plastic cover. I am in Texas and these cars are harder to find here but they are around. If you are interested I know where 2 coupes and 2 sedans are. One is a truck conversion. I just dont wana buy the whole thing and so far thats all they want to do with them.

The back glass is totally flat, so you could probably get a replacement made at an storm window repair shop. It would probably be cheaper to have them cut out a new one for you, than to try and locate a used one.
Also: why bother with seat belts? It's not like these cars go super fast or anything. I removed mine a while ago. I'll see if I still have them laying around some where.

Thanx Mike. That is a great idea about the glass. I will call around and see what that will run me. I guess I would just exacto a piece of card board in the goggle to get a measurement and template. Wont I need to have belts to get inspected?

Now Mike
The original hatch glass has a curve to it.  Put a straight edge on it and you will see.

Back glass:  Don't you need tempered glass in a car?  Call an auto glass place and see what they can do.  If not tempered glass, maybe some sort of plastic.
Seat belts:  My coupe goes 70 on the highway - that seems fast enough for seat belts to me.  For that matter contacting a tree, or another car, or whatever, at 30 mph seems like a good time to be wearing one as well.  Besides, around here it's the law.

Yeah, I just saw a video of a coupe for sale in Chicago and noticed the slight curve the back glass has. Well, still worth seeing if one can be made with tempered auto glass.Maybe the curve is just for looks?

Lexan is a good idea. How thick of a piece do I need? I am guessing it needs to be 1/4 inch at least? or 1/3 inch? Least of my worries with this car now. Got to pull gas tank and the carb to see how bad it is. On the upside I have spark now, which is nice. Yay. Does anyone know if there was a set of mags that came standard as an upgrade. I found some on a dead coupe in a junkyard and they look the same as ones I have seen on other coupes and sedans.

Lexan will work fine if you cant find a used stock one. Most lexan sheets run under size about a 1/32". So a 5/16" sheet would be perfect, a little over a 1/4". It cuts easy, but also scratches pretty easy, so be careful cleaning.

You probably know this but its still worth mentioning. If You put in Lexan, it comes with a thin film that You can peel off on both sides. Id install the window before i peeled the film off. or at least just peel the edges so You can pull them up AFTER its in. Willl save some scratches during the install. Menards sells it and i think Home Depot may too but thats the easiest place to get it. Not sure about what thicknesses they carry. Also its not just a few bucks. Its a little spendy. A few other tidbits. If You go in and ask for Lexon someone migh not recognize the name. Lexan just is a tradename for Polycarbonate. i wouldnt use acrylic even tho it looks ok, it has really bad breaking properties.    Tim
