Re: parts for my 72 coupe

Post by Kathy Mchugh »

For my 600 coupe I am looking for a:
1. steering wheel (not the horn button, that's fine), and
2. a dash (not the instrument panel insert, that's fine), mine has several big cracks.  (and I know that will be REALLY hard to find)
I've looked on ebay, and haven't found anything yet.
Thanks in advance in case the group comes up with something for me!
Kathy

Hi Kathy;
    The best bet is to take out your dash, and have it recovered.  I know this sounds like a real task, but think about it, they put it in and the shop manual tells you how to pull it.  No rockets or brain surgery, just plane mechanics.

Kathy;
On the steering wheel.
Just some thoughts and personal experiences.
There are a few restorers that you can call upon to completely restore your steering wheel.  Costly, but they are like new.   The other way is to get a restoration kit from Eastwood or POR15, to name a couple.  They have books/guides and can help you restore your steering wheel to like new condition with a bit of work.  One problem I have had was that the part of the wheel you are restoring should be good and not crumbling in your hand.  As with most kits the dry and crumbling parts of the wheel are cut away with a hack saw and file until you reach solid plastic.  If your wheel is so far gone it will not allow you to do this then getting a better or restorable steering wheel is the next step to a good restoration.
See you at the drive in
