Ignition/Charging circuit

Looking for a little help from everyone.
It doesn't take much when looking under my 1970 Honda 600 Sedan's hood to figure out that someone has taken a few liberties when it comes to the electrical wiring. Missing the main fuse, wing nuts holding spliced wires together (I don't think they are OEM), a mess of electrical tape, and I can't figure out why. The car ran like this, and i can't remember what did and did not work while it WAS running.
I am rebuilding and want to get the electrical right. When I was attempting to start the vehicle for the first time in quite some time, it shorted one of two wires coming from the ac generator brush connected to the rotor assembly. WHY?
I have taken out wiring between the rectifier, battery, voltage regulator, and magnetic switch on the starter. I am going to replace every wire one at a time to ensure the load is being transfered properly and all connections are sound. I will snap a couple photos as it looks right now. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!

Can't say why they shorted, but "stuff" does happen...

hi i know this sounds dumb but i just got a replacement harnace from some one and used it and it took care of my problem. dean

Well that is what I was trying to avoid, and just use wire I already have on hand.  $$ saving.
HOWEVER, that is always an option, and perhaps the best one.  Now I just need to locate a spare harness.  It isn't the entire car's electrical harness that is messed up, only the cluster that I had mentioned.  Once it connects to the main harness that runs into the interior through the firewall it is okay.  As is the wiring to the lamps up front, fuel pump, heater etc.  Just the right front area under the hood.

A used harness really be a timesaver.  If you can come up with a used harness, you can test the wires while the thing is out of the car, then just plug it all in!  The wiring harness for the engine bay is part 32101-568-674, shown as item #1 on pg 3-32 and 3-33 of the sedan parts catalog.  Maybe that ebay seller "eagle-hd" has one - I do not see one for sale now but it cannot hurt to write him.

You might check with Midwest Wholesale.  He has many listings for Honda 600 parts on ebay and I've purchased several items from him.with good luck.

This is not the right one for your situation, but I see that a "wiring loom" may not cost so much...
