I use a measuring tape and mark my wheels (middle tread) measure from middle of one wheel to the other.  Then roll the vehicle forward or back and check the measure ment on the other (front or back of the tire).  I adjust until they are equal.  I have found that 2mm is kind of a wash.  When I take it to an alignment shop (one that is old school) they do about the same.
