Hello to the group.
I just purchased a Honda 600 that had been sitting for a few years.
I fueled it up and checked the pump operation and get full flow of
gas.
I took the carb apart and cleaned it. Found some varnish but no alot.
I adjusted the float to shut off and re-installed.
The engine now starts and runs but I cannot get it adjusted to idle.
I installed new plugs and checked the points.
I have to have the choke on to keep it running.
I noticed the carb gets cold.
I find that it will rev way up by itself.
I also checked for vacuum leaks and find none.
What do you all think that I am missing.
Thanks for any help, I am at a loss as to what to try next.

Idle problem
Re: Idle problem
Hi Al
Congratulations on the purchase, and welcome to the group. There is a cut
out solenoid on the side of the carb, check that the "O" ring is still
there, then check if it is working (unscrew it from the side of the carb and
touch the hot lead to the positive post on the battery and negative to the
other, the pin should pull in. If it does reinstall it and make sure its
ground wire is grounded well. Then try it again.

Re: Idle problem
Hi Bill,
Yes I did check out the solenoid.
The O ring is in place and it operates.
I forgot to mention this is my original posting.
It was a good suggestion. Do you know if it is
normal for the carb to get very cold?
thanks,

Re: Idle problem
Ok, check the spring under the top cover it might be broken, look at the O
rings on the Jets and check to see that all moving shafts are tight. I even
use a bit of Carb cleaner in the mixture screw hole. and, after squirting a
good shot into the mixture screw hole put compressed air into it.
As to cold, never noticed.
