hello everyone,
im new to this group,
i just bought a 72 600 sedan,
cosmetically great but with some mechanical problems.
pulled the booster and brake master out and cleaned them out
(they were filled with solidified/crystalized fluid in them.)
master cylinder rubber looked good with light corrosion, but cleaned after re-assembly
bled the system and upon test drive, the front calipers siezed.
not good.
but after a bit they came loose.
my question is, where can i get a caliper rebuild kit or if i must, new calipers.
i found wheel cylinders and brake lines(braided), but no caliper gear.
thank you or the great resouce of info, by the way.
i'll up some pics of the car later.
end transmission..
zack

Get ahold of Miles Chapell he rebuilds the calipers and they look brand new when you get them back.

Robert,
Try driving the car, or run the engine and apply the brakes a couple
of times...if the front wheels are hard to turn, open the "bleeder"
screw on the booster unit... The check valves in the booster and master
cylinders stick from time to time...if the wheels turn after opening the
bleeder, the problem is check valves...if not, try the bleeders on the
calipers...sometimes the inside linings of the brake hoses will
collapse, causing pressure to stay in the calipers...if the calipers
free up then the hoses are the culprit...
I don't often see BOTH hoses or calipers fail at the same time,
although possible, so I would check back to the master and booster
first...master has 2 bleeders, so follow the line from the booster, back
to find the right bleeder!!!
Let me know if this helps your diagnosis!!!
