Defective vacuum advance

Post by a65tigrr »

Can anyone tell me what the symptoms would be of a defective vacuum advance unit (possibly cracked diaphram)?
Thanks, Greg

If my memory is any good(its not, but maybe this time...) it seems
to me that if one were to remove the cover from the points box, suck
on the vacume hose(not real hard) connected to it, and watch for the
plate that the points are mounted on to move, it would indicate a
yes everything is OK. If they don't move or when you hold a steady
vacume by blocking the hose with your tongue, they should remain in
an advanced position. If not, either the hose or the diaphram leaks,
or everything could be plain old stuck. Bill--- In

I hate to bring this up, but it works on vacuum, put a hose on the tube and suck on it, with the distributor cover off, you should see the arm attached to the points move.  If it moves, its ok, if not then its bad.
