Hi Dean;
Some times it's a ground issue. look at the black wire going into the
voltage regulator, and pull the plug apart and look for corrosion. Then
look at the ground wire coming from the voltage regulator to the bolt.
Unscrew the bolt and clean the attaching surface. A Volt meter on the Ohm
scale can check out the rectifier to see if it is acting like a diode should
(only letting current travel one way. Check all the connections from the
stator to the regulator. Pull them apart and clean them, then check for
continuity. The Large Shop manual gives some very good tests.
Look around, you will be surprised at what you will find just pulling things
apart.

thanks for the info,I'll check the ground tomorrow.But if i don't remember a ground coming off of the regulator.Also i got a regulator at Autozone that they had listed for this car but it has a different conection.Did they change the conections, or did autozone just have the wrong part number.(i've got brake shoes and pads, and a fan belt there and they were right but you never can tell) This all seemed to start when the fly wheel came off last week, could that have damaged anything?
Thanks for the help
