Desperate plea for help near Decatur, Indiana or Kokomo Indiana!

Post by Charles Gould »

Good evening microcar friends,
I have a desperate plea for help in the Decatur Indiana or Kokomo Indiana area.
A good friend and editor/writer from Hemmings Publcations (Jeff Koch) purchased a Nissan S-Cargo from me and set out from my shop in Massachusetts yesterday to drive the car back to his home in Arizona, and he has broken down in Decatur, Indiana.
He said that he heard a clunking sound, and then the front brake caliper fell off and is now hanging and that the engine stopped at the same time.
My theory is that one of the brake hoses was partially collapsed, and that it caused the brake to drag against the rotating rotor until it heated up so hot that it fused or grabbed the rotor and tore off its mount, either shearing the bolts or breaking the mounting plate, and that it took an engine wire with it when it tore off, killing the engine. It also appears as though it may have sheared a strut mounting bolt as well.
He is stranded on a holiday weekend and will have to wait until Tuesday to have a mechanic assess the situation unless one of our friends or enthusiasts from these groups is nearby and can help.
I was hoping that some competent and capable microcar enthusiast in the area might be able to have a look and possibly help him reassemble the parts so that he can resume his journey. If he needs to source any parts, I can do some online research to try to locate the necessary parts, once they have been identified by anyone who can get some eyes on the situation.
Please respond to me as soon as possible at chasgould@... or by telephone at XXX-XXX-XXXX, as we wish to avoid the inherent delay of awaiting responses to load here on the yahoo groups. I can then put you directly in touch with Jeff.
Lets show this Hemmings editor just how much we help each other in the microcar community.
Thank you in advance for any help or support which you can provide.
