AZ600 exhaust and brake work, and 2014 Portland Historic Races

Post by Mark P Hatten »

Hi Bill,
I'm anxious to hear how the non-power 73 Civic master works out. Remember, Honda 600 rear brakes were never assisted, only the fronts, so you'll have to fiddle with bias.
July 11th 13th is the National Microcar show weekend !!!

We're hoping to have 50 or more Honda 600's show up in Tacoma that same weekend,  other wise I'd be @PIR.
I did PIR parade  laps in my Subaru 360 a few years back, it was a blast!. I was the only on flooring it.

My 72 AZ600 runs great, but the exhaust is missing from the exhaust manifold back. Sounds pretty racy, but ya can't drive it that way. I would like to keep it as stock as possible, and can't find the diameter of the original exhaust pipe.
Does anyone know the outside diameter of the original exhaust pipe?
If you've still got some original pipe on your 600, would you measure it and let me know what it is? Thanks in advance!
My other issue is the crazy brake system on this puppy! I'm going to do something a bit unconventional and put a 1973 Civic master cylinder on it. The 73 Civic came with either vacuum boost or non-vacuum boost brake systems, and I found a rebuilt non-vacuum boost mast/cyl and it mates up perfectly. I am going to make the brake pedal arm adjustable so I can change the fulcrum point of the actuator rod. That way if I don't have enough or too much mechanical pressure, it can be adjusted.
So that's the plan. I will leave the OE booster and lines on the rig to look like it still works. I'll report back in a couple weeks after the exhaust is bolted up and the brakes are ironed out.
Would like to hook up with all the other 600 drivers at the 2014 Portland Historic Races, July 11 to 13, 2014. It would be fun to register as a 600 car club and get to do a lap around the track during the parade sequence on Saturday. Any takers? They also have a pretty good autocross going while the Vintage races are going both weekend days. Don't know that a 600 would beat anybody else, but we could have our own 600 class. I've gone to this event the last two years, and camped out next to the track. Really good racing weekend for cheap! I'll put the 600 in the back of the GMC pickup this year. Yeah, it fits!
Later,
Bill B.
