1972 honda Z600 rides again!!

Post by eric.geiger »

Today was the day!!!!! my 1972 honda Z600 hit the streets for the first time since 1981, and boy was it a blast. After some hard labor I finally was able to take the "Green
Goblin" out onto the streets today. The car was hidden away since 1981 in an indoor storage area in Portland OR by the original owner and hasn't been out since. I bought it in april from the guy who found it there so technically I'm the 3rd owner but only the 2nd to ever see it run and drive.
Mark at MPH specialties in Portland helped get it running again after sitting for 31 years and then I finished it off. There's still lots to do but its on the road again.
Another Z600 is back on the road!!!

Sadly yesterday was the only time for the foreseeable future that the green goblin will be on the street.
Upon looking  for the cause of a rattle from a heat shield I found out the cooling fan assembly has come loose and ripped out all the Threads and also broke off the aluminum at the bottom of the block.
I have began the process of pulling the engine to send the guts along with a spare hea and block to be rebuilt.
It saddens me deeply as I won't be able to make the car show I really wanted to go to but in the long run the car will be much nicer, as I plan to media blast and re paint the entire subframe, exhaust, and anything else that's is a bit rusty. Ill also have all the nuts and bolts re played with zinc.
Hoping to maybe have it back on the road mid August.

Sorry about the OOPS on your little green goblin. But these little cars are tenacious and will go on. Mine had seperation anxiety from the owner that rebuilt her. But my little green is ok now. Had her in our centennial parade here in Prescott,Az.Look forward to future posts on your car.Laurie
