There are three gears unvolved in a reverse shift. The one moved by the fork takes a beating and the teeth round off and become shallower....this one will need to be replaced. There is another gear on one of the shafts that is held on with a snap ring. Replace this gear if you can. The third gear is a press fit on the other shaft and either rarely gets chewed up or is too difficult to replace (can't remember which). If the portion of the fork that fits into the slider gear is "blued", it probably should be replaced. Best Wishes, Don
Just got my '72 z600 running after it has been sitting 20 some years.
found out it "pops out of reverse" am working on that.
I have found many parts off the internet that were missing and STILL need:
Both good front parking/turn lights
Both good resr licence plate lights
Good hood ornament
Good passenger side visor
