AN600

Post by Robert Freeman »

I understand that one of the failure modes of the AN600 engine is the timing chain tensioner. Is this correct? If it is and the parts are no longer available, I would like to try to make a suitable replacement. Could anyone send me a failed tensioner?

Are you asking for a stuck Hydraulic tensioner or the lower roller? Everything along that area fails including the slipper, the center roller, lower roller, and chain !

What is the most predominant failure, that can't be purchased anymore? I thought if I could do the club a favor, I would certainly try. I had thought that most of the stuck hydraulics were do to not changing the oil every 1,000 miles.

If you want to do us a favor,  the items which are not available new and are difficult to repair are the oil pump and the crankshaft.
thanks for your offer to help out,
Dale
PS I will be very surprised if you make an announcement that you are manufacturing crankshafts for the 600.

The crank assembly is above my accuracy capabilities. As I said earlier, the tolerance on the journal pins requires a centerless grinder. The oil pump may not be that difficult. Can anyone send me a failed oil pump?
I didn't know that the chain tensioner assembly was available. Where can I buy this assembly?

Dupli color paint

Post by Kevin Gailey »

Has anyone used the Paint Shop paints from Duplicolor?  They have a Hugger Orange color.  I wonder how close this is to pop orange on the coupe. Twenty bucks a quart, hmmm...

A better solution would be to produce a Sleeve and bearing kit for the Crank shaft.  The idea is to have two sleeves to rebuild the surface on the shaft and internal surface of the rod and a bearing to match.  Grind the existing shaft and rod to match the sleeves and have roller bearings and cage that will replace the warn ones.   Yes, you still need to have the shaft pulled apart but now there is a rebuilding sequence that would save warn crankshafts.   Use of existing rollers and cages from a motor cycle application could be one source.
I have sleeved the eccentric on the oil pump rod hub with very good results and successful repairs.  So this is an achievable goal, and used crank shafts will have value.

What is the diameter of the rod journal?
