Ok i took my 600 for a short drive today ( about 10 blocks) and noticed
when i stop and then go again the back breaks are on a little, then
slowly releases. IF i put the breaks on when motor is off the breaks
release with no problem. when i start the car and put on the breaks
the breaks stay on for a bit (enought that i cannot push it). Any
ideas?

I just fixed the exact problem it was the brake booster hanging up I just tore it down and honed it lightly and reassembled and it''s fine now.

Okay, I'm a little mystified here-
How does fixing the brake booster make the back brakes work better?
Isn't the brake booster hooked up to the front brakes only?

Nobody said anything about back brakes .
He said his are hanging up a litte and if the piston in the booster sticks it keeps the brakes on enough that you can't push the car and it kills your pads.

---lol you guys are right. of course the booster cyl is for the front,
i dont know why i was thinking the back breaks except i have a squeak
in the back breaks becuse one of the drums are warped. thanks for
waking me up on that one.. seems to only hang up for about 15 to 30 sec.

If you don't mind one more question on this brake thread, I've got a sedan
that I modified to run on an electric motor with batteries
(http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/325.html). Since I have no engine, I have
no vacuum. Tried a small vacuum pump but it was noisy (relatively to the
rest of the car, of course) and ran almost constantly when I braked. Has
anyone put in a different master cylinder on their coupe or sedan? Like
maybe a racing type, that can generate greater braking force without using
the booster, even if it requires more pedal travel?

Hi Tom:
While you may have to do some mods to make it fit correctly, Mopar Performance has a really good manual master cyl available for the old cars that really works and feels very much like power brakes. We have used it very sucessfully on cars like Desotos and Mustangs. It should work really well. Cost is about $130.00 if memory serves me right. Any Dealer or even the internet can supply you with a catalog.
