I'm looking to tow a n600 several hundred miles. I have heard that
the standard uhaul trailer may be too big for the n600.
Does anyone know of a trailer that is the right size and can handle
the weight of the n600? I will rent one or buy one if the price is right.
What size trailer to tow a n600?
Re: What size trailer to tow a n600?
I'm not sure what the best answer is for this, but the guy I bought
my Z600 from purchased a landscape trailer with the folding down
tailgate and 1' sides. It was wire metal mesh with a steel beam
frame, but he affixed planks of wood from the back beam to the front
beam under where the tires would ride to distribute the weight. He
did she same over the gate and had to notch out the wood planks on
the back of the trailer so that when the tailgate was up it still fit
right. He used it to two my 600 all over the place without issues.
I don't know what he paid, but I've seen them fairly cheap on
craigslist in my city. Good luck.

Thanks Rich,
I'm going to just go with a tow dolly and hope it all works out. As long as the rear axles are fine I don't see why such a trip is unthinkable.
I may look into getting a dedicated trailer for this car once it is show worthy.

You need the uhaul 12x6 trailer (it has sides on it, and has brakes). Uhaul rents it for 29 per day. Buy a couple of 2x12 boards to use as ramps. It gives you about 1 foot on each side and a foot in front and back. If the trailer doesn't have eyebolts in the floor, buy 4 3/8" eyebolts, drill holes in the trailer floor to put them in. Secure the car using nylon ratchet straps from Wal-Mart (4 in a box for about 17 bucks).
Make sure the car is centered in the trailer before leaving and it's perfect.

You cannot use a standard tow dolly. You will find that the ramps will hit the bottom of the car once it is on it. That will total out the car within 100 miles. Also, tow dollies like the ones uhaul have are just too wide. Read my other email on the UHaul 6x12 trailer ($29 dollars per day).

Re: What size trailer to tow a n600?
Okay, now I'm trying to figure out if the 12x6 trailer is better than teh tow dolly. I admit i'm a bit hesitant to put hundreds of miles of wear on those small old tires. I would much rather get a trailer.
The 12x6 trailer can only be used on a class 3 hitch. Does anyone know what class of hitch came loaded stock on a 2003 toyota tundra 4dr 4WD?

Hay Mat;
Rich is right, the tow dolly will mess up the car and the tires (unless you change them out) will not last the trip home. One of two things will happen, tire will blow because it's old, or the wheel bearing will freeze up and the tire will blow because it's dragging on the road.
Either way, you will end up getting it on a trailer to get it back home.

Re: What size trailer to tow a n600?
Thanks everyone for the input. I will definately invest the extra time and energy in a 12x6 trailer for this trip. I might go to home depot this weekend to get a few 12x2 boards. How long would you recommend they be to be an adequate ramp?

I got 2x12x8foot long.
I unloaded my 600 by backing the trailer backwards into a ditch which then made the ramp level with the street and didn't need the boards at all. Make sure you get pressure treated boards as they are stronger than untreated. they run around 10 bucks or so each.
One other nice thing about the uhaul trailer is that it has brakes and lights. I pulled my car 650 miles with no problems in the rain.
Don't forget to tie the car down in the trailer. use ratchet nylon web tie downs. I did drill 4 holes in the floor of the trailer and put eyebolts (3/8") to keep the tie downs low. (cost of 3.50 for the 4 bolts and nuts and washers). I used a cordless drill to drill the holes. If you don't tie the car down it will bang against the sides of the trailer and get torn up.
If you are able to come through the Tulsa area, drop by my place. If your engine is all together, I bet I can get it running in an hour or less.
here's my phone in case you are able to.

Re: What size trailer to tow a n600?
I know this will sound rather bizarre...it damn sure LOOKS bizarre! On several occasions I've had to transport my 600 Sedan long distances (break down, moving). You will need a couple 10 to 12 foot supported 2X10 ramp planks or back up to an elevated loading hill to avoid getting the car high centered going over the tailgate. It is a "tight" fit going between the wheel wells but it WILL fit! Set your parking break (if it works), block the wheels and strap in the rear end. The rear wheels will ride on the lowered tailgate but the pick up and car will ride and handle just fine! It rides very comfortably in the back of a full size 1/2 ton pick up.Going down the road, expect to get some very comical looks. It appears as though the Honda and the truck are breeding. It gives a whole new defination to Hybrid. Call the offspring a "Horda" or a "Fonda". Wish I had pictures to show, but it does work!
