n600 coil- need specs and sources

Post by riccysmith »

How many ohms of resistance should a stock coil have?
What is the proper voltage amount to the positive terminal of the
coil? Did the factory use a resistor anywhere to step down the 12
volts to something less?
How the hell do you measure 90 degrees of 2 cyl dwell using readily
available dwell meters setup for 4/6/8 cyls?
Are the various Harley davidson dual tower coils a suitable
replacement for the stock coil?
Thanks. Ric.

      Hi Ric
I'M using a Harley Davidson Super Coil in my

Coil ---
Primary Resistance:
Coils utilizing ballast resistors or resistance wires should have
approximately 1.0 Ohm resistance; coils with internal resistors should
have approximately 4.0 Ohm resistance.
Secondary Resistance:
The resistance should be between 4K Ohm and 10K Ohm
Dwell----
The point gap can be set with a feeler guage
1. Rotate the crankshaft pulley until the point gap is at it's greatest.
2. Insert the guage between the points and adjust (AN600 should be
0.012-0.015 in / Civic should be 0.018-0.022 in).
Hope this helps.  Not sure on voltage or the Harley dual tower coils.

Hi Ric
If Jose says they work then I guess they do, I have never had to use one.  The original coil normally does not break down inside.  It's the wires.  You have to do some digging, soldering and glue it back together but they all work.  With new wires and leads they perk right back up.  I only check to see if I have continuity between the spark plug wires and the same between the other two leads.  If they don't then check the wires.  Replace, renew, tape, dig correct and they work fine.
See my Coil fix on the ANZ group site in the photo albums.
