Doug -- See if Mike O'connor has a good original sedan muffler. The muffler helps cut the noise but the silencer pipe that connects to it makes a big difference. If that's shot then the car will be noisy even with a new muffler. I found this out on my '71 coupe. I put a factory new muffler and it made no difference in the high noise level. Then I put a good used silencer pipe and it really made a difference. The factory coupe tail pipe has a little silencer built on the end and that helps a lot. I have one on my restored '72 coupe and it's a pretty quiet car, although at freeway speeds they all roar.
