And can that manufacturer come up with reasonably priced struts for the front?

Kevin;
Datsun has a better fitting rear shock and it costs less.  ask for the late 60's front shocks.

Bill,
    Which year and Datsun model were you considering?   I was looking at www.napaonline.com to see what is available and I don't see any front shocks listed for the 68 or 69 Datsun 510.  I do see  front shocks listed for a 67 Datsun 411.  I have a Napa Auto Parts store nearby but these shocks will be a special order item and I will not know what they look like until I own them.
     I have used the Napa shock # 94111.  While it does work,  it is a stiff shock and I am looking for a better solution.
thanks for your advice,
Dale

the 94111 is the same shock that I use and it is a bit stiff but works...Would be great to fined a softer shock at a good price.

I went to a VW parts place and they had them on the shelf.
They look tube a perfect match. The KYB # on the box is 55486. I went to Pep Boys and cross ref. them to a Monore Matic # 32113.
Take a look.
