Engine swap ?
Hello, I would appreciate being entertained by you nice folks with the ideas of an engine swap in a 72. I have heard of Harleys, 750 4four Hondas... How about a new Fiat engine. Any comments would be great appreciated. Michael
Re: Engine swap ?
Remember Mike, the Honda 600 engine has the engine and trans in the same case and it attaches to the front drive/wheels. But talk to Mark P Hatten who has changed out the engine.

If you're going to go with something new, look in to the new fit engine! Very compact, and it's a honda!

IF YOU USE A BIKE ENGINE , YOU WILL HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT COOLING , GEARING & THE LACK OF A REVERSE .
A CAR ENGINE WILL ALSO HAVE TO BE COOLED BUT WILL ALSO NEED A TRANSMISSION & DIFFERENTIAL .
ONCE YOU ARE THROUGH DEALING WITH THOSE QUESTIONS , THERE IS A WHOLE WORLD OF WORK IN FINDING A WAY FOR IT TO FIT IN THE CAR WITH EVERYTHING STILL BEING FUNCTIONAL .
TO QUOTE MYSELF , WHEN DOING AN ENGINE TRANSPLANT , A QUARTER OF AN INCH CAN BE WORTH A MILLION DOLLARS .

I agree with David. Just no room under that little hood, without chopping everything up, ask Mark. He is still working on that motorcycle engine project. Also these cars are very rare in nice shape. You could put a turbo, with fuel injection on the 600 and have fun. Even doing that is a lot of machining and fab work. It's your car and money, just think it through. I was thinking about a Harley engine mounted sideways with rear drive......guy's need hobbies. My 2 cent's minus taxes. Tru-Craft.com Lyle

Re: Engine swap ?
I had the same question several years ago and found very few links/projects for repowered N/Z600s, even fewer that got to the running stage.... There are a few out there however, if you dig for them&
-As stated, Yahoo group member Mark (2stroketurbo) has a BEC N600 in-progress-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bT9br1nYw4
-This guy (Bryce) did a wonderful job stuffing a Honda car engine into the rear of his N600-- http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/ ... 452/page1/
-This N360 repower stalled out last I checked, but looked promising-- http://jalopnik.com/5465237/if-the-rear ... ow-what-is
-Then theres mine.. still under construction and scruffy looking, but mechanically running and sorted-- http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtop ... 36&t=14452
n
Whatever you end up doing, if you alter the drivetrain, it is a tremendous amount of work, but its also a lot of fun J
Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do with your 72&

Re: Engine swap ?
I've also been looking at ways of swapping the engine out and putting an electric motor in its place. Even with the smaller size of an electric motor, I am having major fitment issues.
Just the fwd manual transmission alone from another car can be difficult to fit under a Honda 600 hood.
