Speedo Gears

Post by Karnut »

I was tearing down some 600 engines, and notice that the speedo gears had different amount of teeth(15 &16).Are they
either for coupe or sedan or does it matter?

Yes,  it does matter if you want the correct speedometer reading.
The early sedans (N600) had a non-synchromesh transmission and it had a different speedometer gear ratio than the synchromesh transmissions found on later sedans (N600) and coupes (Z600).
Which transmission used a 15 tooth speeometer gear?  I don't have that detail right now .... I would have to go look.  But you can search the newsgroup emails for the answer...... I think Bill or Miles mentioned it in a message a couple years ago.  If you can't figure it out,  send another message and I'll take a look.
good luck,
Dale

The full synchro trans has the 16 teeth, the constant trans has 15 teeth.
