i have gone to school for auto body repair and refinishing. the way you are talking about on popping a dent is easier to use an oxy torch and making the dent red hot. then you put a cold wet rag on it. it'll shrink the metal right back to where it once was.

I have used a hair dryer and than an ice cube with some luck.  I would be worried about getting it red hot with that thin metal, possible warpage and that would be a bummer

i thought maybe for shallow straight foreward dents. Its kind of weird when You see people doing it on Youtube some of the time it works and some it doesnt. Also, i think once You've heated the metal once, it changes it molecularly and its harder to get more of the dent out Either way, i have to get the dents out as best i can so i got a heat gun and stud welder and if we ever get any good weather here im going to have a dent pulling festtival !

Hmm... is this procedure actually returning the sheet metal back to its original shape?
I've read from a couple of sources that what actually happens in such a procedure is that the paint separates from the metal beneath and contracts -- flattening out, but that the sheet metal remains dented underneath the flattened-out paint layer. I don't know what the truth is for this procedure, though -- just asking.
I have a couple dozen hail dents in my coupe that I'd like to eliminate. (It was outside and got hailed upon one day. Made me upset when I saw it, as you might imagine.) Fortunately the hailstones weren't super-large, so no glass damage occurred. But the sheet metal on the Honda 600s is pretty thin, so the hail dented the body, nonetheless. (If it had been my old Super Beetle with thicker body sheet metal outside, it probably wouldn't gotten dented at all.)

i didnt see any videos where it looked like the dent stayed in and the paint stretched. They all looked like they popped back out
