Wiper motor

Post by laurie_randall »

Has anyone serviced one of these? Mine moans and wipers are very slow and slower. Not like the peppy ones on my coupe in 1972. Of course i know it is 40 yrs old but wondered if there was anyone out there that knew how to pep it up.Not my daily driver but will drive it for exercise. Here in N.AZ i might have to deal with occasional monsoon rains,coming soon,or a possible snow fall in the winter. Laurie Send response to hunyburd@... thanx

I usually take the whole wiper motor/assemblies apart and clean and lube all moving parts. I would first try taking wiper arms off and try spraying some WD40 into the wiper shafts while you have wipers turned on and see if they speed up, then if that seems to work, try putting some light oil on shafts and work it in. That usually is the main problem with wipers as rain and dirt get into the shafts and wash the oil out and cause them to start binding up. I hope this info helps you out. Brad.

Hi Laurie;
There is lubrication on the arms that should be done, not the WD40 stuff either.  Clean, lube make sure the grounds are there and connections are not corroded.
