Hello all, Mark at MPH Specialties currently has my Z600 and is trying to get it running for me. the only thing currently in his way is a clogged fuel line. its the tank outlet line that runs into the fuel filter. He has tried soaking it and spraying some carb cleaner and such down it and taken a wire and gotten through about 12" of it but he says its filled with a tar like substance.
Does anyone have any suggestions to clear the line.
Would a radiator shop who boils and seals tanks be any help??
if it can't be unclogged is the tank trash?
Thanks!!
clogged fuel tank line help
Re: clogged fuel tank line help
Eric
I dont think the line is the main problem, it is the old gas that is now tar that is in the bottom of the tank. The line itself is pretty easy to clear. I would call a radiator shop and ask. If the tank is not full of holes, I would do what I could to save it because there is different ways to fix it even if there is holes. How thick is the gunk in the bottom of the tank? Mark might be able to put a cleaner in the tank and let it soak for a while

The tank itself is in great shape no holes no rust. He drained about 4 gallons of old gas out of it but said he thought the tank is very usable.
ill pass this info on to him.

Re: clogged fuel tank line help
I run across that all the time, I work on classic VWs all the time and wake up cars that have been sitting 10 years or more, and they have a metal line that runs from front to rear through the frame. The gas turns into a tar like substance after a year or so,especially in the metal line. I usually get an old stranded cable (clutch cable) and cut to length needed then chuck it up in a drill. I try to cut the end of the cable with a sharp edge so it will try to cut through the tar. It is important to run the drill in the opposite direction of the wind of the cable,if you go the wrong way the cable will unravel. then run the cable in the tube and start drilling, I use lots of carb cleaner , squirt some in first and start drilling. It sometimes takes a lot of time. Sometimes even have to replace the metal line.
Good Luck with it, hope this helps.

Re: clogged fuel tank line help
Eric;
Brad beat me to the punch, using a cable and a drill is the only way to cut through. But I have had to drop the tank, drill the lines and then drill into the tank pickup tube. Well worth the trouble.
You might even ask mark if you can do it to same some bucks. Then don't stop there, get a good tank cleaner and etch and put in some tank sealer.
It will save all kinds of trouble later.
