I bought a starter from someone in the group, that had a bad armiture, and it tore up everything else inside. At a SoCal starter shop, after much investigation, the guy there told me that he found someone in AZ. who could rewind the armiture, but the price was $250 (WHAT?) In the meantime, I bought a good used starter from Ray Cave, which has not failed yet. My two questions are these:
Does anyone in the group know who might be able to do the job for a more reasonable price, or maybe have one for sale more reasonably priced already, taking mine as a core to lower the price?
And is it possible for an early Datsun starter armiture to work as a replacement? According to the guy here, his investigation revealed that using the Datsun one listed, when armitures sat side by side, the shaft is the same length, but that (I believe he said) the Datsun was a shade longer, and he didn't want to take the chance on messing up my starter with it.
Any info. would sure be helpful....

I bought a start online once from a starter place that said it will fit the honda 600 and everything was the same except the gear was wrong so I used the one off my bad starter and than all worked well. so beware. I am sure that the people that are from the forums that sell starters know the difference.
