Hello all, I just wanted to see if any of you could help me figure out my problem.
A couple weekends ago, I was taking the 600 around my neighborhood to warm it up before taking it out. After the car got all warmed up and running well, i took it for another lap just to be sure. About a quarter of the way, the car started acting like the clutch was slipping a little, but I kept going, then it got progressively worse to the point where i couldn't make it up a small hill and got stuck 3/4 the way up! well, I pushed the car home and tried to move it in my driveway.
When you let the clutch out, the car tries to move, but it wont budge. It barely catches, it seems like all the wheels are in holes and it cant power out of them. Since my car developed this problem, I thought it was the clutch slipping. I checked the old friction disc and the rest of the clutch, the oil seal is not leaking and there is no apparent reason for the problem.
I purchased a new friction disc and installed it and that did not fix the issue. After that didn't solve the issue, I purchased a pressure plate off of ebay thinking that the diaphragm spring wasn't producing enough presure. Installed that, exact same problem.
I was hoping that someone from this board or 2cylinderhondas would know what the issue is and be able to instruct me on what I needed to do to fix the problem. I am mechanically adept, but I was trying to see if there was anything I could do to not have to drop the engine and open the case.

Re: my 1970 n600 won't move
It's possible the driveshaft to diff has broken (I did this, too many times poping the clutch while push starting). Raise the hood, have a friend watch FROM THE SIDE, and try running in gear. Or, put the car on jackstands, leave the transmission in gear, and try turning the wheels by hand.

The 600 clutch mechanism is purely mechanical system, using a cable.

Make certain your brakes are all releasing. Jack up each wheel (in neutral for fronts, handbrake off) and turn by hand. All should turn freely.

My 1970 ANr00 had similar symptoms a few years ago, and inspection revealed that it had sheared teeth from the differential ring gear.
Check your oil for metal.

Hi,
I looked at your post and looked at what the others said. Your symptoms matched up well with what Miles suggested ......
a bad primary drive. Your symptom is something you would only see with the primary drive which was used in the 1970 engine. Take off your valve cover and take a look at the oil in the cam area. Does it look like it has black particles in it ... something which looks like sand. That is the round dampers of the primary drive which disintegrated .... the part which is behind the clutch. You want to use the system which was found on the 1971 and 1972 engines ..... they never failed in this manner.
Your crankcase is probably full of sludge and rubber particles plus the screen of the oil filter is going to be full of rubber particles. This all needs to be cleaned out. It can be cleaned out with the engine in the car but it will take some time to do it right since there will be lots of debris in the primary drive section and in the crankcase below the crankshaft.
