absorption refrigeration

It looks like your wish may come true.  The auto industry appears to have been looking into absorption refrigeration systems for some time.  I get the impression it was not adopted for the gas-powered cars because the system is more expensive (and may be more hazardous because of the chemicals used) than the systems currently found in cars.  The current air conditioning systems require you to use a little more fuel but it doesn't impact the mpg ratings which the gov't watches (but it does impact the mpg rating you observe) and it lets the auto industry get by with a less expensive system.   As electric vehicles pick up in popularity, the existing air conditioning systems are not going to work so well since they will drain the battery quicker.  Since you probably want the air conditioner on when it is hot outside (due to lots of solar heat),  the solar-powered absorption refrigeration system may be the ticket to a cool ride.  I noticed Ohio State University has lots of info on stuff they are doing with this process and they have a close alliance with the American auto industry.

Dale, It's many thanks to you yourself for following this up. Alternatives to Ammonia & Hydrogen maybe available in this day & age.
If as much research was applied to the likes of this as is given to The Arms Industry, I,m certain we would all benefit.
