Well, im trying to come to terms with one of my Z600's. I was out in the back yard looking at it and the thing is just rusty-i mean really rusty. the floors are gone, the inner fenderwells are gone-very little rocker panalage left and the lower back looks like the rust monster just took a big bite out of its hind end . .. argg. I also know that i have a lot more talent cutting and welding stuff than i do trying to figure out how to rebuild one of these two cylinder air cooled engines-SOOOO- im looking at cutting the top off another car and grafting the bottom of it to the top of this Z600 to it. Im sure im not the first person to do this. the big question is what kind of car i should graft it on to. I've been walking junk yards to see if i can find a car that i can still get parts for thats close to being as small as the Z600 is. Right now a likely candidate is a Ford Festiva or Fiesta. i also thought about an 86 or 87 Honda Si. The smaller the doner
car is tho, the easier the task will be. i think the Festiva takes a 12" tire witch is bigger than the Z' 10" but smaller than a 13" which id probably end up with if i did the 86 or 87Si. My goal is to put some kind of drivetrain in that i can get parts for pretty easy. brake parts included. Im wondering if Anyone knows of a car thats still easy to get parts for that might work better than a Fiesta, Festiva, Yugo, Civic Si or Rabbit? Thanks, Woof

Re: chop chop . . .
a little update for Anyone that read the post i sent out about my re-vamping my Z600. Shortly after i posted that i was going to graft a newer drivetrain under it because the whole bottom was rusted out, i found a 96' Geo Metro pretty cheap($200-135,000 miles). i cut the body all off it with the sawsall. Everything had to go-roof bumpers, fenders, doors, hood, trunk, rear qtrs etc. . . it looked like someone blew up the car! All thats left is the drivetrain area and the floor pans. im going to cut approx 14" between the front wheels and the rear wheels to get it to match the Z. This car had factory A/C and is a 5 spd. im going to try to cram all the Geo dash underneath the stock dash. if it works it will be nice. Unfortunately when i got it home, i didnt know anything about Geos Metros. The older ones have 12" tires but i guess newer ones have 13"s. If i can get an older rim to fit, ill be in like Flynn, but if i cant, well, i guess its gonna be a little crowded in the wheel wells. I can acheive my goal of grafting these two cars together but im a little disapointed that with out really really modifying things in the axles, i cant get the width a little more narrower between the tires. Ive done some mockups and i think even tho i cant sport the 10"ers on it, The car will still be ok for what im doing to it which is gittin er' down the road on my shoestring budget. will post more as my Frankenstien Z gets farther along, Woof

still working on my fillet mignon Z . . . .got the length between the front and back of the Geo cut down 14". i have the bottom all cut out of the Z. just have to finish a little welding on the seam between the front and back half of the Geo and i'll start to fine tune the inside measurements on both cars so they fit . . . yessiree, a sawsall is a mighty fine tool;)
