Engine stand

Post by sangreyb »

HI,
I am new to the group and am currently rebuilding my az coupe's 600
engine. Does anyone know where I can get an engine stand that will work
with this engine?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,
I use a regular engine stand.  I took a front engine mount frame and welded a steel pipe to it (the pipe was sized to fit the engine stand).  I have attached some pictures (if you are able to see them).
good luck,
Dale

You can't always choose whom you love, but you can choose how to find them. Start with AOL Personals.

Dale,
Thanks a lot for the info and the photos. This helps immensely.

Hi Bob;
    Go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/anzhonda600owners/
you will have to log into Yahoo and go to the photo albums, in there you will find a file called "removing your engine"  in there you will find a picture of how to use a couple of long bolts attached to the engine mount cross bar and some jack stands and you can move your engine from bottom to top, using a bit of caution and not having it all to gather I pull the engine and using a couple of come-a-longs keep things on a work bench nothing will fall off of.  (the floor)  A normal engine pull will take about 30 to 40 minutes.   Useful tools are egg cartons to keep bolts, nuts, washers and stuff separated and easy to locate.  News paper to lay down on the floor and help the "in a progression" (many books say reverse the order when reassembling) laying everything out helps to do this.   Also, a time saver is to take it all apart, lay everything out and then clean/inspect when your ready or while to put it back together.   How do you tell a good part from a bad part? is a really good question.   I have found chunks of metal in the bottom of the case, some times it was left there from a previous rebuild that went bad.
(I can't guess why).  Look for the obvious,  wear, cracks, threads that are gone or stripped, hard rubber, and the shop manuals will tell you most of this.
Also, if your going to rebuild the engine, go all the way.  Just poking around this or that does little to benefit the time spent.  Split the cases, pull everything apart and give it a good look.  Rubber dampers that are hard as a rock will do nothing for your engine.   Chains that are stretched will cause problems later.  Oil pump rods that are loose, cracked or warn will result in engine death.   All of them can be prevented with some care and contacts in this and other groups.
I love the heck out of meeting another Honda 600 on the road, but that hardly ever happens.  So get it built right and wave when you go by.
