I too have used the rubber tubing to hold emblems on. But, one - unless the emblem fits flush it will have a gap. two - the rubber will eventually crack and fall off. three - if you can't get your hand up there to put on a flat clip the same will be for the rubber hose.
Barrel nuts are the best, but they too will rust if not put in with some RTV around them before putting them in.
