Rebuilding motor top end

Post by tdthies1 »

Well i finely dropped the motor in my coupe and got it up to B&B auto
in Washington to rebuild the top end check and replace oil pump if
needed and hopefuly the bottom end is still in good shape. Also took a
spare motor if there is any good parts that can be used. Want to get it
back togather for this summer than maybe paint next year. Well maybe
not when i have found it to cost arount $3500 dollars to paint and fix
dents and some rust. OH well that is what old cars are made for..lol

Why? I just had two massive modern plastic bumpers prepared and painted, a rear quarted with a dent, and 3 doors, on a modern VW, in METALLIC so that’s extra clear coat, for 300 all in. That’s about the amount of paint there is on the whole z600!
Find somewhere better, and consider fixing the rust and dents yourself first (if the rust is only surface no reason you can’t rub it down to metal and use two coats of high quality anti rust primer, then start your filling, leave it lightly primed and the bodyshop can do the final skim but the main work will have been done for them – you could also rub the whole thing down ready for them).

My concern is that i have never done any body work and i know from
working with wood that if you do not do the prep right the paint, no
matter how good it is, is going to look bad but i may have to do the
body work by myself just becuse of cost. i have checked in three
differant places for paint jobs with the body work and it is between
3,000 and 3,500. but that is next year. I just want to get my car
running again.lol.
thanks for the info
