Bad 600, bad, bad

Post by StangGuy67 »

Had the 72 sedan out today for a cruise, and all was going well until I heard a horrible sound, and I lost power. I had felt that before when a spark plug had popped out of it's hole.
Since I was on the southern California freeway system, and I had no tools with me, I had to continue on at about 35. When I got it off to the side, I saw that not only had the plug come out, but a previously installed insert along with it, and there was a huge chunk of the head gone as well. This hole, now oval in shape, is too far gone for a helicoil.
While on the way to a suitable place to park it, the strong winds here in Southern California today ripped open the hood, and threw it up against the windshield, scarring the hell out of me. Pulled over, jammed it back down, hard and started on my way again, only to have it fly open one more time. No glass damage, but the ends of the hood are dinged up pretty badly now. Sigh.
Looks like it's on its way to Tim Mings for a replacement head, and hood, unless someone has any ideas?
