Help Me!! Timing Probs!!

Post by uninterestingnobody »

Hey guys -
I was just getting my an600 started up and it wouldnt idle, I messed
with the carb and still couldn't get it to idle right so My freind
and I decided to do all the tune up procedures in the factory manual
I have. First up was check the timing, which we did by taking off the
valve cover and looking at the line on the cam to make sure it was
horizontal when the crank pully was aligned with the T mark on the
tranny. It was not, so we pulled the end caps off the sides of the
motor that hold the cam , and then moved it to the spot it was meant
to be at,after slipping off the chain. We re-assembled the tried to
start her up, but all we got was a strained chug chug sound that
sounded nothing like the turning over noises we had before we messed
wuth the cam. We though we had made a mistake so we did the procedure
again, with the same results. To my knowledge the timing is dead on.
I want to know if there is some trick to the timing, and what we
could have done to screw it up so badly. Also is there anybody near
Boise, ID that will work on the motor for me? I would like to do a
copmplete internal rebuild if possible, but all the motorcycle guys
say its a car and all the car guys say its a motorcycle.... any
suggestions? Thanks!

--- If you look further into this group site, you will find a section
in the (files) about how to change out a timing chain. I just
changed the chain in my sedan a couple of weeks ago by following
Bill's procedure, and it was a breeze. Also, you need to check your
valve clearance for proper adjustment, and check your idle solenoid
on the side of the carb. It may have a bad ground, or just bad.
Belonging to a group entails more than just (message posting). Bill
has worked very hard to make a good group full of information, so
please, search around the group site. There has been a lot of time
input into it.
