Hi all,
I have started to do the restoration on my 600 sedan. I have found a
few peculiar things. I was in the process of trying to polish the
fender emblems and the grille emblem. The chrome on these parts was
badly weathered and I could not get a nice luster from them. I used
polishing compound on them when I noticed that I was wearing through
the chrome and to my amazement the emblems were turning brass.
I have decided to strip off all of the chrome and leave the brass
color to show. They look as if they have been gold plated. I am
probably the only one who will have nicely polished brass emblems on
my 600. I have no idea if the rear trunk lid emblem was forged brass
since I don't have a rear emblem to play with, but I am going to
produce one out of some brass plate and polish it to match the others.
Also I have found out that the front turn signal lenses can be
replaced with the ones off of a 1974 - 1977 Honda civic. They are the
same lense except that the ones off of the newer Hondas have
designating arrows for right and left. Even the chrome frames, and
the rubber gaskets fit. I picked some up from a junkyard for about
$13.00 for the both of them.
Also I noticed that both of the vent doors in my sedan are broken. I
am going to try to fabricate some new ones out of nickel silver. I'll
have to let you know how that goes. I just hope the vent bases are ok
and will handle the stiffer metal door.
On another note.... I own a 1972 sedan. I have a carb for an earlier
year 600. It is the carb with the large rubber diaphragm on the top.
I won't be needing this carb for my 600. It is in need of a rebuild
and needs the diaphragm replaced. I'll sell it to anyone who wants it
for $20.00 plus shipping charges.
