Engine Sagging

Post by Danielle Gailey »

I pulled the mustache bar from the front part of the engine and cannot see how somebody could mount it any other way than it is mounted. There are spacers welded onto it on the top holes to account for the recess in the block where the bolts thread in. This is a 72 so maybe those spacers were not welded in on earlier models. Or maybe somebody other than factory welded those spacers on.
Maybe they are upside down? I am including pics of the bar front and back. Again, I have replaced center section and didn't see anything wrong with the one that came out. The two front mounts attached to the mustache bar were also replaced. Nothing is wrong with the four that mount to the body.
Thanks all for the help, this is a weird dilemna.

What do you mean " I have replaced center section and didn't see anything wrong with the one that came out" the centre rear mount is in tension and will look ok unloaded as i said previously check to see if the cooling fan housing is rubbing against the rack also to remove the rear engine mount is not easy and cannot be dismissed as easily as you have. the front engine mount's and the subframe mounts unless broken away (they break in a safety mode) they give no problems i cannot stress how important and easily missed  a collapsed rear engine mount is.

The engine support at the front of the engine can only be installed one way.
I was looking at your original msg...... check the collars and cushions (7,8,9 in the frame diagram pic in this email).  I think they might be from something other than a Honda 600 car.  If the height of this combo of parts is too much,  it will cause the shift linkage to be moved downward.
good luck,
Dale

Sorry if my last message was a bit harsh i spent ages trying to work out my issue and all the time it was the rear mount, has this problem suddenly occurred or was it there when you got it?
