Bottom case

Has anyone seen this? It's right behind the differential gear, kinda sits beside the transmission gears. It looks like it has been shaved smooth.

You are looking at "baffling". It holds oil where it is needed for lubrication in specific places. In this case oil is held in pockets to lubricate the gears.

The picture with the angle cut how they got the synchro gears into the non synchro cases, That's factory. There should also be a slight notch out of the upper casing to clear 3rd gear - it's where the oil flows to the top end.
