Mufflers

For what you will pay a shop to custom make you a muffler you could get a stainless steel muffler from Sherwood Garage in Birmingham England. Though Peter passed away his shop should still be supplying them. Mike OConnor used to sell them.

Good morning.  I contacted Mike a while back, but have also been looking at tractor / generator / rv mufflers.  From an engineering point of view, what consideration (besides fitting into the space provided!) is most important?
I believe a muffler for a smaller engine than the 600 would (could) have excessive backpressure.  So, I am hunting for a muffler designed for a gas engine with 600 cc or greater.
Is this assumption reasonable or just bad logic?
Thanks for any advice.

Honda used the same muffler system for both the 360 and 600.  And, a smaller engine would need less back pressure than a larger one.   Most of the mufflers made for cars today are made with less back pressure because of the catalytic converters in the exhaust system.
