can anyone tell me what the paste/cement looking junk is all over the heat exchanger on the 600 motor and its purpose?
also id like to know if i can purchase something similar to smother back on since a lot has flaked off and been blown off due to sandblasting all the exhaust parts to prep for a repaint.

It serves two purposes. First , insulation to keep the heat in the box and out of the engine compartment. Second, sound deadening. Try your local heating and air conditioning supply company for a similar material. If you have a spare exchanger, take it with you to show them exactly what you are laking about.
