windshield and back window weatherstripping for n600?

Post by tortuga »

does anyone now where to get windshield and back window weatherstripping where the seller doesn't think it's made of gold? $300 per window is outrageous!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can restore without it but I don't want to if I can get a reasonable price on new.

I used the rubber from Kevin Keough... the front was a perfect fit and came with the chrome strip. The rear will need a bit of 3m glazing compound between the metal and the rubber to get a good seal.  $125.00 per side .. I think a bunch of people use it, but won't say so!!!!

I totally agree, my project can also be completed without having to change rubbers. But if I could get them at a price that does not have to sell an arm to replace both rubbers would be great.

I normally don't get involved with pricing issues, but there seems to be a lack of knowledge in this discussion.  I have been having them made for my restorations since 1995, and providing them to Honda 600 owners for almost what I pay for them.
To all Honda 600 owners looking for weather strips for their vehicles.  A 10 ft.
Extrusion of plain old rubber is about $5.00 a foot.  It's plain old rubber, there is no UV resistance, edges are weak, the rubber may be soft or to hard depending on the shop and will not take the corners well as you can tell by buckling and the need for extra sealant (RTV).  When you stretch the rubber to go around the corners, it causes it to stress and crack in a few months.  Chrome strips for the lock strip are available at any windshield shop for around $45.00.  Some are using the Diamond T pickup weather strips that do not have a channel for the chrome strip.   The inside lip is narrow and if not put in properly the windshield can pop back out because the seal is made for flat glass and the Honda 600 windshield is curved.  It's also difficult to put in and windshields have been broken trying to use that seal.
If you go to any dealer and ask about their new windshield seals (if the vehicle takes them)  they are in the $300.00 to $500.00 range.  To get a seal that will last for 10 years or longer and stay pliable so the chrome strip can be changed out, it will cost more than plain old rubber.   If the rubber is shaped to fit the corners then it's going to cost even more.  Add to that the cost of having a template made to shape the rubber on and $300.00 is cheap.
The rubber I have on my 1972 Coupe is over 10 years old, has no cracks and I changed out the Mylar chrome strips last September for the JCCS show without a hitch.
Even the original Honda windshield seals if still pliable so they can be used, will crack in a couple of years.

Okay then. What sealant are you guys suggesting to put in weatherstripping on doors? And I need advice about back glass too.  It would be cool if there were Honda 600 instructional videos( not just before and after slide-shows) on youtube. This stuff isnt in the shop manual unfortunately.
