Ignition key switch
Ignition key switch
I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the lock cylinder from the ignition switch. My lock cylinder is messed up and i already have a new one with key but i cannot get the old one out. I do not even know how the new one i have was taken out, would anyone know or have advice? OR a diagram of how to remove it???

Re: Ignition key switch
I just posted this a few days ago. Tim Ming told me to notch the bolts with a hacksaw, but I used a dremel, if you have one. The cutting wheel made a perfect notch for a screw driver. Loosen the bottom bolt first then you can use a skinny flathead for the upper.

Re: Ignition key switch
I probably did not explain it right, i ment the actual lock tumbler that the key fits into in the ignition lock. It is no the actual lock cylinder housing.

Re: Ignition key switch
You need to ask a locksmith ! Wait, I'm a locksmith and a Honda 600 mechanic. I used to have an exploded photo of the ignition switch with the cylinder removed posted on the main page. Once you remove the steering column with switch intact or remove the switch assy from the column you will need to remove some of the black paint. There is a steel pin pressed in to the lock retaining the cylinder. Once you remove the pin, you can withdraw the cylinder. Replace the cylinder and the pin if there is anything left of it.
Normally you drill a hole next to the pin then wedge it out. After you put the pin back in, tap it in then put lead shot in the hole and tamp in down, repaint if you desire. I guess you could use lead solder as well.
I will email you the photo.
