hub caps

Post by rpw1959 »

I noticed that on the vegas car people wrote in that it had civic
hub caps. What's the difference? I have the four my AN came with
and I bought two replacements from Mike C. They all look alike
but they look like the ones on the vegas car too.

I looked at the picture of the vegas car again. Is it the color? I repainted the background color the same color as my car, red. I think they were black before.
I've seen pictures of rebuilt 600 engines that have the top edge of the
"HONDA" on the rocker cover painted red. I thought it looked cool so I did my engine the same way.
I live in Omaha, Nebraska. The car shows are either on the east or west coasts. My car's a driver. I figure if I can't have some fun with the color what's the use in having it?
I was thinking that if the only difference in the hub caps was the background color and you were looking for replacement hub caps you might buy the civic caps and paint the backgound to match the 600s. The civics are newer and were more plentiful that the 600s. The hubcaps should be in better shape.
Then reality set in. How many early civics do you see driving around? Junk yards will only keep cars that they can sell parts for. I'd guess that 99 percent
of all early civics and their hubcaps have been crushed for scrap metal long ago.
A couple of years ago I was on a quest to find a Hawaiian cam along with the special carbs and intake manifold to make the super engine for the 600.
I looked up all the Junkyards in Hawaii online. I pictured someone there with
a machete hacking back the undergrowth to get to the 600s in the ravine.
Pulling out the cam, intake and carbs with their Hawaiian metric socket set and
calling me back to ask how many do you want of each?
I called all the Junkyards and no one had ever heard of a Honda 600!!!!!
I found out later that having the high horsepower engine came with a cost,
damaged crankshafts, that's why Honda detuned them for the states.
The best thing to happen to Honda 600 collectors next to Bill and Miles is the Internet. Without it getting and keeping your 600 running would be so much
harder and take so much longer.

Civic caps are red in the center and on the Honda 600 coupe the shape of the edges of cap and the H have rounder curves, centers are painted semi-flat black. The Civic caps are similar, but the edges are squared off.
