Point cam seals.

Post by William Silver »

I tried to order the camshaft seal, that goes behind the point plate and the local Honda dealer looked it up on his computer and said it would be here next day.
Then, he called back to say that Honda told him that it was NLA, discontinued.
The seal is 20x30x5, which is also the same dimensions as the seal for my Honda 305 Super Hawk starter clutch hub. I am not sure if the rotation is the same, however. Anyone use generic seals or the Honda motorcycle seal for this application?

Bill, I once was told a part was NLA, then the parts guy started working the keyboard.  He found the same part with a M/C part #, and then did a cross reference to it.  Got the piece, and it worked.
So armed with the M/C part HC, I'd go to a different dealer and try again.  Ask the guy to cross reference the seal to the AN/Z600 part #.

Hi Bill
the direction is simple, if the seal from your 305 is on the right side of the engine then it will work, if it's on the left side of the 305, then the seal will have to be reversed to work.   I have seen them in that way before.
