Starter question. Does it matter if I take my starter to any repair shop or should it be a Honda specialist?
regards.

Anyone who specializes in starter, generator or alternator repairs should be able to make the repairs.

Jeremy;
    Any good repair shop can do a good job, but because a number of jobber manuals say that a Datsun Bendix will fit on a Honda starter you have to make sure that they rebuild your Honda Bendix as the Datsun unit is wrong.   I have to say this again, the Datsun Bendix is not OK to use on your Honda 600 starter.  If the shop does not know where to have the Bendix rebuilt, go to another shop.  In fact, ask your local NAPA dealer where they have their starters rebuilt at, and take it there.

Jeremy:
  Check out Bowen Electric on Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park. They have rebuilt starters and generators for Harleys for me for years and they are excellent. They should be able to do your Honda with no problem. Let me know how you make out.

I have 2 rebuilt starters still. I had 10, but sold them mostly on eBay for $95ea. So I could sell the last 2 as I don't need them right now. Please email me off list for more info.
They do have the correct drives in them, I might be able to find the pictures as well.

Hi Miles,
      I'll take one of those starters off your hands in a month if you still have, have had to put a ton of bucks in my pickup recently and am almost caught back up.  I'll be running fires in a few weeks and will have alot of OT.  I have it running okay but doesn't seem to have the power it should have.  I noticed when I had points cover off a(when running) the camshaft moving sideways a bit, doesn't appear to be chattering.  It seemed to have power when I first had it running, (when the carb was messed up) so I don't think it is valves....what is the compression normally supposed to be?  Thanks,  Don
