honda n600

Post by fedweezee »

does anyone have a clue if the honda n600 had vinyl roofs factory??? my
n600 use to have a black vinyl roof on it (the car its self is yellow)
and looks to have the vinyl trim too. the vinyl is not on it anymore
but pieces of it still remain.

Re: honda n600 Vinyl Top

Post by Dan Vann »

Not sure if it was factory but my 600 had an (ugly) red/black vinyl top when I purchased it in '82. The top didn't survive 17 years sitting exposed to the elements but the polished aluminum trim pieces just above the tailights look professional and still adorn the car.
.....and a sidenote about the tires.......which also sat for 17 years.....I could stick my finger through the dryrotted Michiliens....... but the Dunlops on the rear, took and held air - and while I don't run with them, they still hold air to this day!
Anybody know where I can get a set of Yohohamas?

The vinyl top was a Dealer Option like the racing stripes. I have
seen both sedan & coupe with the vinyl/naugahyde tops. Some of the
sedans had a factory sliding cloth sun roof. I owned one and it was
very cool except in the winter when the rain poured in.
You can get the Yoko A008's from Tire Rack, you have to call them.

I beg to differ, Oh Great and wonderful OZ, but Tire Rack is
completely out, and Yokohama has NOT given them a re-stock date, or
even an "IF"!
I have been looking for 1 (one) and have not found anybody willing
to sell me a single A008 tire, so my 600 is sidelined until I can
find one or get a set of stock rims to put these Kumhos on. My Yokos
are old enough that if I were to dismount them, the bead would
crumble like the first one did. I wouldn't have done that one but for
a puncture that needed to be fixed from the inside.
The sidewalls and tread are still soft and supple, not leaking any
air, and they don't show much wear, so I'm not risking removing them.
My spare was inflated, and full of water. The rim started leaking air
and water like a watering can when put on the car and the jack was
let down. The whole inside of the rim rusted away and is ruined.
It's a big Bummer! I love driving my Honda, and withdrawal is
ruining my great attitude about life. Even my 2 grown up boys noticed
it.

Hi all I bought a set of Kumho tires for my coupe, the out the door price was just under $200 but that was with mount and balance, it would be cheaper to purchase with no mount and no balance, I got mine from A-1 truck warehouse of Kansas. MT Hope Kansas   XXX-XXX-XXXX

can use "Trailler Tires" yea they look a little funny some of them so
what! the car is cute enough on it's own. Go down to your local
Motorhome / R.V. / Trailler supply store. Go around back by the
dumpster there is a large pile of tires and there will be a lot of
10" tires OR you can go inside the store and by new ones. D.O.T. sez
you can not use them as front tires OK they also say you can not
drive on tires that have any cracks in the side walls and I would
have to say I bet there is not 1 600 owner in this room that can
say "I never did that" Some cheap or free trailler tires could get
you by until ? Or switch over to 12" set of alloy from a rabit or
festia,I cant remember what car is close.Ya know you can go back to
where you are at now, NOT DRIVING at any time!

I use golf cart tires on the rear of my N600 now, and I also used them back in the 70s, they can go flat and you dont even know it, they still keep the car up! also used the knob tires from the little honda 70 trail bike works great in the winter! and they dont cost much.
Just some Ideas!

Re: honda wheels & stud patterns

Post by Stuart »

"switch over to 12" set of alloy from a rabit or
festia,I cant remember what car is close."
Honda 600 wheel stud patern is 4x110 PCD.
VW Golf/Rabbit/Polo & most post '80 Honda is 4x100
Ford fiesta is 4x108
Daihatsu is 4x114
Only some '70s RWD Mazda & Quad bikes/golfcarts seem to share the Hondas
unusual stud pattern both of which seem to have silly offset for Honda
applications leaving them protruding from the wheel arches substantially.
Though I'll measure up some Mazda R100/1300/1500 12" wheels if I see them.
So unless you want to get custom modified wheels or revise your cars
wheel-stud pattern......
Though there are lower profile 12" tyres about that do share the same
rolling diameter as the Hondas 360/600's 10".
I must admit I'm about to experiment with Subaru Sherpa (Rex/Justy) brakes
to convert my watercooled Honda Z to 4x100 & 12" wheels but I think that
has a different driveshaft spline pattern of rear axle dimensions to
air-cooled Honda so may not work for them.

I bought a set of Falken 145-10 from a british car website. They cost me a little more,
but I think they are a nicer tire. Do a search for them. Unfortunately, I think they are not
DOT certified. But have Euro certifications.
