Oil filter plate (washer)

Post by John »

Changed the oil on my 1972 N600 sedan for the first time since I got it and discovered the
plate (washer) was missing. It's that washer that goes between the spring and the rubber
gasket under the oil filter. I haven't yet asked at the Honda dealer for the part (90420-551-
000) but in case it isn't available from them, does anyone know where I can get a suitable
replacement. The hardware store washer has the right OD (29 mm) but the wrong ID (17mm).
I think the washer may be about 28 mm OD and needs to be 18 mm ID, or a hair more. ( I'm
not putting the new filter in until I have something in there to hold that gasket in place.

John,
Alot of cars are missing that washer because it gets stuck to the
rubber seal and people throw it away. There's a similar washer in the
transmission that fits, it's a thrust washer. If you can't order the
washer from Honda, I should have some spares.

Thanks. I'll call Honda later today or tomorrow morning.
I knew that there was supposed to be a washer there, so I was careful
to account for all the parts when I pulled the filter. I smelled
trouble when I could see that the gasket was squeezed down inside the
spring.

Called Honda this morning. Parts guy said that the part number for the oil filter washer
(90420-551-000) was still a good number. We'll see when I stop in Thursday morning
when I'm in town. John
