Hi all,
On that subject: My coupe hasn't had badges on it since I bought it 17
years ago, but I have a few in bad shape (peeling, faded, etc.)that I've
held onto all of these years. A few weeks ago, I finally got around to
sending one of my 5 old coupe badges to an automotive
rechromer/restorer, to get a quote on restoring them. He quoted me $75
for one, and $65 in quantity. This would include remetallizing them, as
well as repainting the black portions, etc., so that they would look
like new. If the posts on the back of the badge are broken off, they
can fix those too, at extra cost. I think the price is kind of high,
but I have nothing to compare it to. As a group, however, perhaps we
could pool our old badges together, and look for a few more quotes.
Perhaps our combined volume would get us a lower price. The question is,
how many old badges are out there? And what is a reasonable price for
refinishing them?

I agree that is high. I had my entire front bumper stripped, straightened,
rechromed, etc. for $280 (that's after tax, enviromental, hazardous material
fees, etc.) I felt that $280 was excessive, but the quality was amazing.

$75 for a shiny new "honda" emblem across the back of my sedan doesn't
seem too unreasonable. I've been thinking about how I can do that job
myself (cover it with conductive paint (expensive), then copper plate,
nickle plate and chrome plate (expensive), and then paint in the
relief areas? - what a pain in the patukus!)
I'm in for a "group buy" or if it just ends up being the two of us,
fine. All I need is the honda emblem on the tailgate lid though. The
metal badges on my car are in good enough shape.

These badges are plastic that has been vacuum metallized to look like chrome, then detail painted black in certain areas.
